About Hoone

Hoone is a free driving game in your browser, a daily game like Wordle but with a car. Every day there is one new island, the same for everyone, and one question: how fast can you get from the start to the goal?

What it is

You drive a small car across a low-poly island, from the start line to the goal arch. The road always gets you there. Walls, rivers, cliffs and other barriers between its stretches hide riskier, faster ways. You can jump, drift, ride walls and steer a little in the air.

Tries are unlimited and your best time counts. Everyone races the same island, so every time on the daily results was set on the same roads. You can race the ghosts of other players or watch their runs, and every racer has a page on the racers list.

The game is in English and German. It runs in a browser on a computer, a phone or a tablet, with a keyboard, a gamepad or touch controls. How to play explains the rest.

How it is made

Built from a seed

There are no level files. Every island is generated in code from a number, its seed: the coastline, the hills, the road, the jumps, the villages, the trees. The same seed always gives the same island, which is why everyone gets the same map on the same day.

Checked before the day

Each island is put together from pieces: stretches of road, the barriers between them, a start and a goal. Ahead of each day, a program builds several candidate islands, rates them for drivable roads and variety, and keeps the best one.

Everything in code

The cars, the buildings and the music are made in code too. There are no 3D model or sound files: the sound comes from a small synthesizer in the style of an 8-bit console.

Runs in your browser

The island is built on your device when you open the game. Three.js draws it with WebGL, and the Rapier physics engine drives the car, all inside the browser.

No ads

Hoone shows no ads and loads no advertising or tracking scripts. You can play without an account. The game only counts anonymous numbers, like how many rounds were played on an island and how well it runs on different devices, without cookies and without a player ID. The privacy policy lists exactly what is collected.

The shop

The game is free. A few extra cars can be bought, and that money pays for running the game: the servers behind the leaderboard, accounts and cloud save. Paid cars only change how your car looks and sounds. Every car drives exactly the same, so paying never makes anyone faster. The prices are in the FAQ.
