How to play

Drive from the start to the goal as fast as you can. There is a new island every day, the same for everyone, and your best time goes on the leaderboard.

The goal

  1. A red off-road car on the start line with the clock at 0:00.000, arrows around it, the goal flag far ahead

    Look around

The clock starts on your first input, so take your time at the start line. The pause menu has a map of the island with the start and the goal.

  2. The car driving up to the glowing goal arch by a lighthouse, with the finish time

    Race to the goal

Drive through the glowing arch at the goal. A marker on screen shows where the goal is. Take the road, or risk a shortcut.

  3. The car chasing a see-through blue ghost car on the road, labelled 0.4 seconds ahead

    Go again

Tries are unlimited and only your best time counts. Restart any time with G.

A new island every day

Every day at midnight Central time (US) there is a new island. That is 06:00 UTC in winter and 05:00 UTC in summer. Everyone in the world drives the same island that day.

Each island has a number. Hoone #1 is November 1, 2026, and the number goes up by one every day. You can see every past day and its winners on the results page.

Older islands stay playable: open the leaderboard in the game, pick a day in the calendar and press Play this day. The Random map button on the start screen builds a practice island of its own.

Touch screens

On a phone or tablet, put your thumb down in the lower left of the screen and a stick appears there: push it up to drive and sideways to steer. The button on the right jumps. The small button at the top left restarts the run.

Settings, then Swap touch controls puts the stick on the right and the jump button on the left.

Your own keys

Every keyboard action has two slots that you can change in Settings, then Key bindings. On the start screen, Enter starts the race.

In the air, forward and back tip the nose, steering turns the car and air roll rolls it. Try to come down on all four wheels.

Water, lava and falling off

If the car lands in the sea, a lake, lava or a deep pit, it goes back to the start line. The clock keeps running, so after a big mistake a restart is often quicker.

Stuck on your roof? Press jump and the car flips back onto its wheels. If you wait a moment, it does it by itself.

Ghosts and replays

Every finished run is recorded: the path of the car and the keys that were pressed. A ghost is that recording driving next to you as a see-through car.

  • In the pause menu, pick which ghost you race: Mine (your best on this island), Record (the fastest time of the day) or Off.
  • On the leaderboard, every row can be raced as a ghost or watched as a replay. A replay shows the inputs the driver pressed, with a timeline and speed control.
  • Your profile keeps the runs you finished in this browser, so you can race or watch them again later.

The leaderboard

When you finish the day's island, your time goes to the leaderboard by itself. If you haven't picked a racing name yet, the finish screen asks for one. Only your best time on an island counts, so you have one row per island however often you play.

Past days have two views. Day of shows only runs driven on that island's own day. All time also counts the runs the board took on the day after.

Everyone who posts a time gets a public racer page with their daily places. Find them on the racers page. The board's rules are on the fair play page.

Personal bests

Your best time on each island is saved in your browser and shown on the start screen next to the day's record. Times on islands from before yesterday and on practice maps stay in your own records and don't go on the public board. If you sign in, your best times are saved to your account too, so you can carry on on another device.

Cars and paints

Every car drives exactly the same. They share the same physics and the same size, so the car you pick changes the look and the engine sound, never your time.

Free

The Steppe is yours from the start.

Paid

The Rally Turbo, Rosso Offroad, Safari GT and Dune Buggy cost $2.99 each, or $7.99 for all four while you own none of them. ICANTFLY costs $14.99 on its own. A paid car comes with all its paints. You need an account to buy one.

Earned

Every other car unlocks with a long-term goal. Once a car is unlocked, it stays unlocked.

CarHow to earn it
Baja BugSpend 10 minutes in the air
PickupDrive 150 km
Side-by-SidePlay 14 days in a row
GeländeFinish the daily island on 21 different days
Micro TrailFinish 150 runs
SoapboxSpend 45 minutes in the air
Rally HatchBeat your own best time 75 times
Squad CarDrive 750 km
HovercraftPlay 30 days in a row
PanzerDrive 2,000 km, finish the daily island on 100 days and set 150 personal bests
Chicken HutUnlock all 10 cars above, play 100 days in a row and drive 3,000 km

A day counts towards days and streaks when you finish a run on it. Distance and air time only count during a run.

Paints: the Steppe and every earned car start with one paint. Two more paints and Gold unlock with more of the same challenge that unlocked the car, and Gold is by far the hardest. The Steppe, Panzer and Chicken Hut count the kilometres you drive in that car.

Progress is saved in your browser. Sign in and it is kept in your account, so clearing the browser or changing device doesn't lose it.

Tips for faster runs

  • Learn the road first. The road always leads to the goal. Once you know it, look for places to cut corners.
  • Road or risk. Walls, rivers, cliffs and other barriers sit between the stretches of road. The way over or across them is a shortcut, and a fall into water or lava sends you back to the start.
  • Pick a branch. Some stretches split into two routes. One is often shorter but harder to drive.
  • Use the kickers. Ramps throw you over gaps. Line up straight, keep the throttle down, and use air control to land on all four wheels.
  • Ride the walls. Curved walls can be driven along if you carry enough speed. Slow down and you slide off.
  • Bring momentum. Steep gullies up a cliff and low rocks can be climbed, but only with speed, and the climb costs some of it.
  • Drift the tight turns. Hold drift to slide the car round hairpins instead of braking hard.
  • Race a ghost. Race the day's record and watch where it pulls away. The replay shows which keys the driver pressed.
  • Restart early. A bad start rarely turns into a best time. G is quicker than driving on.

Just off the coast there are small islands. You can reach them with a near perfect jump. There is nothing to win there except the view.
