Playing

Is Hoone free?

Yes. You play in your browser, with nothing to download and no account needed. There are no ads. A few extra cars can be bought, but they only change how your car looks and sounds.

Is Hoone like Wordle?

A bit. Like Wordle, there is one new challenge a day, the same for everyone, and you compare with other players afterwards. Instead of guessing a word you drive a car across an island, and you can try as often as you like: only your best time counts.

What do I need to play?

A current browser with WebGL 2, which almost every browser has: Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari. You can play with a keyboard, a gamepad or a touch screen.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. On a touch screen you get a stick to drive and steer and a button to jump. Settings, then Swap touch controls switches the sides. Older phones may need a lower graphics setting to run smoothly.

The game is slow or stutters. What can I do?

Open Settings and lower Graphics (Low, Medium, High or Ultra). The game also lowers it by itself when the frame rate drops. Closing other tabs helps, and so does turning on hardware acceleration in your browser settings. More fixes are on the support page.

Can I use a controller?

Yes, any gamepad that works in your browser. RT drives, LT brakes and reverses, the left stick steers, A jumps, B or X drifts, LB and RB roll in the air, Y changes the camera, Back restarts and Start pauses. All controls are on the how to play page.

The daily island

When does the new island come out?

Every day at midnight Central time (US), which is 06:00 UTC in winter and 05:00 UTC in summer. Everyone gets the same island, numbered from Hoone #1 on November 1, 2026.

Is the island really the same for everyone?

Yes. The whole island is built in your browser from a seed that belongs to the day, so every player gets exactly the same roads, jumps and shortcuts.

How many different islands are there?

About 2.7 billion. Nothing is drawn by hand: the game puts each island together in code from its seed, out of more than a hundred building blocks (stretches of road, rivers, cliffs, ramps, ruins, starts and goals) in many landscapes. At one island a day, that is enough for millions of years. For a random island, roll the dice on the start screen.

Can I play old islands?

Yes. Open the leaderboard in the game, pick a day in the calendar and press Play this day. Your times there count for your own records. The public board of a day takes runs on that day and the day after. The past results are on the results page.

What are ghosts?

A ghost is a recording of a finished run, shown as a see-through car that drives next to you. In the pause menu you can race your own best or the day's record. From the leaderboard you can race or watch any run, with the keys the driver pressed.

How does the leaderboard work?

Every finished run on the day's island is posted, and only your best time counts, so you have one row per island. Each run is checked by the server before it counts. The rules are on the fair play page.

Account and progress

Do I need an account?

No. Without one, your progress and settings stay in your browser. An account is only needed to keep your progress on other devices and to buy cars. You sign in with your email address, with a password or a one-time code.

How does the cloud save work?

While you are signed in, your racing name, best times, play counts, stats, unlocked cars and paints and saved maps are kept in your account. Play on two devices and the saves are merged without losing anything. Settings stay on each device.

How do I change my racing name?

Open Profile and change Your racing name (up to 20 characters). Your runs from the last hour take the new name; older runs keep the name they were posted with. Names must follow the name rules.

Is my profile public?

Yes, for the leaderboard part. Everyone who posts a time gets a public racer page on this website, listing their daily places. It never shows your email or account. You can find racers on the racers page.

How do I delete my account or my data?

In the game, open Profile, then Delete account. This deletes your account, your cloud save and your leaderboard runs right away, and cars you bought are lost without a refund. For runs you posted without an account, email [email protected] with your racing name and the day. To clear what is stored in your browser, clear the site data for hoone.net. Details are in the privacy policy.

Cars and the shop

Do paid cars make me faster?

No. Every car shares the same physics and the same size. Paying changes the look and the engine sound, never your time.

What do the paid cars cost?

The Rally Turbo, Rosso Offroad, Safari GT and Dune Buggy cost $2.99 each, or $7.99 for all four while you own none of them. ICANTFLY costs $14.99 and is not in the bundle. Prices are in US dollars and include sales tax or VAT. You need an account to buy a car, and it comes with all its paints.

How do I unlock the other cars?

The Steppe is free and five cars are sold in the shop. All the others unlock with a long-term goal, like driving 150 km or playing 14 days in a row. Each goal is shown in the garage, and the full list is on the how to play page. Once unlocked, a car stays unlocked.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Email [email protected] within 14 days of buying and we refund the car in full, no reason needed. The refunded car is removed from your account. The details are in the refund policy.

I bought a car but it is not in my garage.

Make sure you are signed in with the account you bought it with, then open the garage again after a minute. If it is still missing, email [email protected] with the order number from your Stripe receipt.
